Capacity Building of Health Workers

Capacity building is integral to the healthcare sector, as it enhances the efficiency and efficacy of healthcare providers, and the health system. Therefore, it is imperative for medical professionals and frontline workers (FLWs) to keep themselves updated on new procedures and processes.

These technologies and tech-based innovations have entered every sphere of healthcare, right from healthcare management to disease detection, diagnosis, and treatment. Hence, capacity building has become critical and indispensable for medical professionals, Frontline Workers (FLWs) as well as for not-for-profit organizations working in the public healthcare space. LEHS|WISH has a well-defined capacity building agenda. Since inception, we have been providing trainings for capacity-building and upskilling of medical professionals and frontline healthcare workers in the intervention states.

LEHS|WISH training and capacity building efforts are tailored to create a responsive system of healthcare, wherein skills and competencies of the staff are enhanced to improve healthcare delivery at the grassroots. Along with technical skills, these also include interpersonal skills, patient-centered attitude and professionalism. To develop these skills and characteristics, continued professional development and in-service trainings are provided.

Training Delivery

The methods through which skills and competencies of the primary healthcare providers are developed is also extremely important. LEHS|WISH uses offline, online and blended modes of training. To impart training in the COVID-19 situation, LEHS|WISH created Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). The online trainings have been designed by qualified medical personnel and delivered by a set of trained trainers.

LEHS|WISH follows the Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) guidelines to provide skill-based training to the staff working at PHCs. The guidelines include clear directions about which trainings need to be provided to concerned staff on various national health programs. LEHS|WISH PHC staff receives trainings by both, the government and LEHS|WISH, on various topics including health programs, soft skills, and the use of innovations. LEHS|WISH, in partnership with the respective state governments and NHM, rolls out a series of online trainings for frontline workers and volunteers, namely, FLWs, paramedics, MOICs, Doctors and Specialists. All LEHS|WISH trainings are designed keeping in consideration the learner’s ability, their language and the state context.
